A Canberra Liberals Government will:

  • Work with the Indigenous Community to transition control of Boomanulla Oval complex back to them
  • Work to transfer the Ngunnawal Bush Healing Farm to an Indigenous controlled organisation
  • Provide a funding boost of $2 million to Winnunga to support the important work they do for our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community
  • provide additional funding of $250,000 to Gugan Gulwan to expand their tutoring program
  • complete the building of dedicated residential Indigenous drug and alcohol rehabilitation program for the ACT community.

Shadow Minister for Indigenous Affairs James Milligan said the Boomanulla Oval has significant cultural significance for the local Indigenous Community.

“The oval is currently managed by TCCS, but the local Indigenous Community has been seeking to have control restored back to them over many years,” Mr Milligan said.

“The oval is home to the Boomanulla Raiders and is used for other Indigenous sporting and cultural events and a Canberra Liberals Government will look to transition control of the complex back to the Indigenous Community.

“We will also work to transfer the Ngunnawal Bush Healing Farm to an Indigenous controlled organisation, through a tender process, to allow the services to be delivered.

“A Canberra Liberals Government will also provide additional funding to Gugan Gulwan to expand their tutoring program and allow it to help more of our young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

“We will also work with the Clontarf Foundation to investigate them operating an Academy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in the ACT, which will focus on improving education, life skills and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men.”

Canberra Liberals Leader Elizabeth Lee said a $2 million funding boost to Winnunga will help support the very important work they do for the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community.

“Winnunga has been operating in the ACT and surrounding areas for over 35 years providing such an important service to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community and we want to ensure that important work continues,” Ms Lee said.
